From May, on selected dates, the Alfresco Sessions will offer great entertainment from local bands and other cultural partners and from June a performance space will offer Alfresco Dining and Shows. Here are a few details that you may find useful:

About the Market Place FAQs

Where is Derby Market Place?

Derby Market Place ( DE1 3AH ) is located in the heart of Derby's Cathedral Quarter, with great transport links from all areas of the City and just a few minutes walk from the Bus Station. It is surrounded by two of Derby's entertainment venues - Guildhall Theatre and QUAD, along with a selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

Where’s the best place to park if I’m driving?

All day parking is available at either the Assembly RoomsBold Lane or Chapel Street car parks for just £2.50 when visiting Derby Market Place. Simply bring your parking ticket along with you and speak to one of our front of house staff to receive your discount. 

What about the Government guidelines?

We have everything covered, so you can relax in a safe environment, here are the measures we are putting in place:

  • Everyone in your party needs to check in using the NHS App or paper contact form.
  • There will be hand sanitisers available at the entrances and exit and on each table.
  • Social distancing measures are in place for queuing and the tables are laid out in accordance to the latest guidelines.
  • Regular cleaning of all communal spaces and toilets.
  • Our staff will sanitise and deep clean each table between bookings.
  • Every day there will be a deep clean of all areas.
  • Signage will be available to help with social distancing.
  • We will respond to lifting of restrictions as they are announced.

Do I need to provide the names of all people on our table?

Yes, it is a legal obligation to collect Test and Trace information for all visitors over the age of 16. You will be able to check in using the NHS App on site (please download the app before you arrive) or complete the form provided with your contact information.

What if we turn up at different times?

No problem. Simply pass the confirmation of your booking and the table number on to the group and they can turn up separately.

Are children allowed on site?

Children are more than welcome on site but must be accompanied by an adult.

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is not permitted on site. This includes the use of e-cigarettes in all forms.

Are dogs allowed on site?

Assistance dogs only are welcome on site.

Are there toilets on site?

Yes, the venue has its own toilet facilities which will be routinely cleaned. Users of Changing Places toilets can also use the Council House Changing Places room between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Can I eat my lunch from sandwich take-away shops at Derby Market Place?

Yes, subject to availability. Derby Market Place is a space to sit and enjoy food at the heart of the city centre.

What are the opening times?

• Sunday to Thursday 12-3pm,
• Friday and Saturday 12-3pm and 6-9pm

How long can we stay for?

You book for a 3 hour service slot. Please factor in delivery times and consumption to allow you enough time to enjoy your meal. The space will need to be clear at the end of the service slot to be cleaned down. There is a bar on site and drinks can be purchased after displaying proof of your food order. Alcohol can only be purchased with food consumed on the premises. The bar will close 15 minutes before the end of the service slot.

Do we have to arrive at the start of the service slot?

No. Once booked the table is yours for the 3 hour service slot. Derby Market Place is a flexible, clean space to enjoy food with others. Tables that are vacated early will be offered to customers who have not booked in advance. Last entry 30 mins before close.

We can’t attend anymore, can I cancel my table?

If you have made a booking and are unable to attend please contact our Sales and Information Centre on 01332 255800 option 1 or email boxoffice@derby.gov.uk so we can release the space for the use of others.

How many people are allowed per table?

Access to Derby Market Place must be in line with current government guidance at each phase. Each table is for the use of up to six people or two households. Please note no walkways and access should be blocked and social distance should be maintained between different groups at all times.

What happens when I arrive?

You will be asked for your booking details and we will need to take details of everyone on your table for track and trace purposes. This information will not be shared with any third party and won’t be used for marketing purposes.
You will then be guided to your table. If your chosen food outlet is providing delivery, they will find your table and deliver it straight to you.

Do I need to provide the names of all people on our table?

Yes. We will need to collect contact details from everybody in your group.

Can I just turn up?

We do encourage people to reserve a table beforehand in case of high demand. However, where tables are available then these will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

I require an accessible table, how can I book this?

Accessible chalets and open air tables to accommodate wheelchair users are pre-bookable, subject to availability, through the following channels:

Ordering food FAQs

How do I order my food?

Details of suggested outlets are listed on the website where you can get in touch with your chosen café, restaurant or pub directly. They will let you know if they will offer a table delivery service or if you need to collect your order.

Will cutlery be supplied?

Cutlery should be supplied by your food vendor, or alternatively you can bring your own disposable, compostable cutlery.

Where can I order food from?

You can order your take-out food from any food outlet in the city that is offering a take-out or delivery service and will deliver to Derby Market Place. A list of a selection of suggested eateries is available on the website. 

Can we collect and bring our food on site ourselves?

You can, but we ask that you pre-book a table first. This is to stop your food getting cold while you queue and stop frustrations when you have to log your details.

Is there a bar?

Alcohol can be purchased on site using the Derby Brewing Company app.

The bar will be operating a “Challenge 25” policy. If you are fortunate enough to look 25 or under then proof of age may be requested. Our approved forms of ID are: valid Driving Licence, valid Passport, Military ID, Any other form of ID with the PASS hologram on it.  

Please note that it is a condition of our license that alcohol cannot be brought onto the premises from any other supplier. Thank you for your assistance with this.

We reserve the right to refuse alcohol to those we feel are too far under the influence.

Can we bring drinks in containers?

Non-alcohol drinks in plastic bottles are allowed but please do not bring any glass or alcohol onto the site.

Events & Shows FAQs

What time should I arrive for the event?

Please refer to the time that your event starts in your booking information and allow time to arrive at Derby Market Place, to park, access the space, and familiarise yourself with the new layout and safety measures in place.

Can I bring a bag with me?

Please only bring one small bag where possible, as we are unable to store any personal items for audience members. 

Can I bring alcohol or glass into Derby Market Place?

The Market Place is a glass-free site, and alcohol cannot be brought into the venue. Bag searches are in operation for everyone’s safety.

Where are the bar and toilets situated during marquee events (mid-June onwards)?

The bar and toilets are in the "alfresco area", which is not covered. Whilst the marquee is heated, please come prepared for the times you need to leave this comfort.

Can I pay by card during events?

Please make any on-site payments via a contactless bank card, rather than cash, where possible.

What if I cannot attend an event because I am self-isolating or have symptoms of Covid-19?

If you have made a booking and have been notified to self-isolate or you are exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 please do not attend the performance.  Please contact the Sales and Information team by email or on 01332 255800 option 1 at least 24 hours before you are due to attend where you will be offered the choice to reschedule your tickets to a different performance or have a full refund.

Will events be socially distanced?

For events scheduled to take place up until the end of August, seating will be sold at a reduced capacity initially. You will be offered the best available seats for your party size.  The seats offered will be 2 seats away from other customers and there will be a row between you in front and behind.  If you have a specific seating requirement or access requirement please call the Sales and Information Centre on 01332 255800 to book your seats.  Once we receive direction from the Government that we are not required to be sat socially distanced all seats will be made available to be booked.
